I just stumbled upon this post about the paintings Francesco Clemente did for the film, “Great Expectations,” which starred Ethan Hawke and Gwyneth Paltrow. Like this writer, I loved them, too. Here, she’s includes images of some of the works along with film stills. Definitely worth a read if you’re a fan of Italian artists.
“Great Expectations” (1998) is a film adaptation of the Charles Dickens novel. Directed by Alfonso Cuarón and starring Ethan Hawke, Gwyneth Paltrow, & Robert De Niro. I am entirely obsessed with this movie. A huge part of that is rooted in the artworks the film features, by the Italian painter Francesco Clemente. Born in Naples in 1952, he has participated in numerous collaborative projects, painting with Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol, and illuminating poetry by Robert Creeley, Allen Ginsberg, & Salman Rushdie.
He is truly incredible. The music doesn’t suck either.
I’m going to bed. Sorry this wasn’t more well thought out. But I am tired and my bed with Jeff in it is calling. Night.
