New Work by Giuseppe Penone at Haunch of Venision
An exhibit of Italian Arte Povera artist Giuseppe Penone will open tomorrow at Haunch of Venison in London. Penone was one of the artists referenced in Germano Celant’s landmark 1969 book, Arte Povera. The exhibit will feature new work made in various mediums over the past 10 years by the 65-year old Penone, as well as recent drawings made for his Bloomberg Commission work, Spazio di Luce which previewed yesterday at the Whitechapel Gallery. (You can find a very engaging video that features imagery of the work and Penone speaking about it if you click here.)
Penone is known for his Alberi, tree, works and in their release Haunch of Venison writes, “For Penone the idea of drawing is a generative process similar to the growth of the tree, a motif used repeatedly in his work.” He is concerned with the relationship between man and nature and portrays this through his art.
